Coles has officially opened it’s new format flagship store located at Moonee Ponds in Melbourne. This new store heralds the launch of the ‘Together to Zero’ strategy which involves working with suppliers toward achieving zero emissions, zero waster and zero hunger.
Coles are taking meaningful steps to achieving these goals through new targets and tangible changes in store including:
Net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050
All operations powered by 100% renewables by 2025
Package-less refill stations for detergents and body washes
Reduced packaging for fresh produce
Shopping bags made from 80% recycled content
Trolley baskets made from 90% recycled milk bottles and 10% REDcycle soft plastics
Staff polo shirts from 65% recycled bottles
Leftover edible food donated to SecondBite to distribute to local community organisations
Signed an agreement with Lal Lal Wind Farms near Ballarat to purchase energy that will cover 45% of it’s total consumption by FY2023
It’s an absolutely tremendous effort by Coles toward improving it’s sustainability outcomes and it’s great to see this kind of competition ramping up which has a net positive benefit for all.
